tibicen lascivus, primum omnium calceis femineis in scena usus est, artemque tibiarum omni mollitie depravavit, a quo dissolutos et parum viros Batalos vocant; tale fuit Demostheni cognomen, teste Cael. Rhodig. l. 5. c. 13. Libamus, Ι῾ςτόρηται γάρ τινα Βάταλον Ε᾿φέσιον ἀνλητὴν γενέςθαι, ὅς πρῶτος ὑπόδίμασι γυναικείοις ἐπὶ τῆς σκηνῆς ἐχρήσατο, καὶ μέλεσι κατεαγόσι, ἀπὸ τούτου δὲ τοὺς ενλύτους καὶ ἀνάνδρους Βατάλους ενάλουν. Unde Hesych. Βάταλος, καταπύγων καὶ ἀνδρόγυνος, κίναιδος, ἔκλυτος. Ceterum Βάταλος apud Atticos pudendorum pars. Sic enim Plut. scribit, Δοκεῖ δὲ καὶ τῶ οὐκ εὐπρεπῶν τι λεχθῆναι τοῦ σώματος μορίον παρὰ τοῖς ῾ἀττικοῖς τότε καλεῖςθαι βάταλος. Nic. Lloydius.
